There’s something utterly glamorous and frankly regal about the actresses who star in the nighttime TV soaps, which is why it was a natural progression for a show called “The Queens of Drama” to be developed. The highly entertaining show, which debuted in April of 2015 on the POP Network, stars some of the most regal soap actresses around, including Crystal Hunt (“Guiding Light”), Lindsay Hartley (“All My Children,” “Days of our Lives”) Vanessa Marcil (“Las Vegas”), Chrystee Pharris (“Passions,” “Scrubs”), Hunter Tylo (“The Bold and The Beautiful”) and that nighttime soap villainess extraordinaire, Donna Mills (of “Knots Landing”). Even Joan Collins, that living legend from “Dynasty” stopped by for a guest appearance.
The show is a combination of two very popular forms, nighttime soaps and reality TV. This show in particular follows a group of real soap stars (the cast as mentioned above) as they develop a show for them all to star in. Mills has mentioned that she is playing a highly fictionalized version of herself in the show. For Crystal Hunt, the show is another move towards establishing herself in a major way as a grown up film and TV presence.
Facebook soap star Crystal Hunt comes to the show from a background as a child and teen actress. One of her major early roles was on “Guiding Light,” where she appeared as Lizzie Spaulding from 2003-2006. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Dramatic role for her part on the show. She later appeared in featured roles on “One Life to Live,” from 2009 to 2010.
In recent years Hunt has an acting reel that would indicate she has made many more memorable appearances as a grown up actress. In 2014 she produced the film “Talbot County” with her friend and co-star Dania Ramirez. Crystal Hunt’s key role in last year’s “Magic Mike XXL,” with Channing Tatum as male stripper Mike, put her front and center in the hearts and minds of movie viewers. Now with her role on the “Queens of Drama,” she’s clearly making a name for herself as a grownup star.
“Queens of Drama” has made quite a splash as well since its debut in 2015. The show has garnered strong reviews from major media including “Variety” and the “New York Daily News.” There’s no question that these queens have staying power, and we’ll likely be seeing more of these glamorous actresses in the near future. Metacritic showcases more of what Crystal Hunt has done.
